Sesame seed is considered to be the oldest oilseed crop. It is a common ingredient in cuisines across the world, used for confectionery purposes, edible oil, paste (tahini), cake and flour.
Sesame is drought-tolerant and is able to grow where other crops fail. That is why it has been called a survivor crop. However, it requires adequate moisture for germination and early growth.
